Privacy Policy

UnicodeGames is built to be private by default. The short version: we don't require an account, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across the web. We use a cookieless, privacy-first analytics tool (Ahrefs) that stores nothing on your device, plus optional Google Analytics that loads strictly after you choose "Accept" on our cookie banner — never before.

What we store

The only data the games save is your high scores and best times, and these are stored locally in your own browser using localStorage. This information never leaves your device and is never sent to us or anyone else. Clearing your browser data removes it.

Analytics & cookies

We use Ahrefs Web Analytics for basic, privacy-friendly traffic measurement. It is cookieless: it sets no cookies, stores nothing on your device, and does not collect personal data or track you across other sites. Because it processes only aggregated, anonymous information, it runs for all visitors and does not require consent under the GDPR or the ePrivacy ("cookie") rules. We also use Google Analytics 4 (provided by Google Ireland Ltd.) to understand which games are popular and how the site is used, so we can improve it. We set no advertising cookies, run no ad networks, and do not track you across other websites.

Analytics is off by default. When you first visit, a banner asks for your consent and nothing analytics-related runs until you act. Only if you click "Accept" do we load Google's analytics script and set its cookies — typically _ga and _ga_<id>, which hold a randomly generated identifier used to count returning visitors and sessions. They expire within about two years. If you click "Reject", no analytics scripts load, no analytics cookies are stored, and any existing ones are removed.

The legal basis for this processing is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)). You can change or withdraw it at any time — withdrawing is as easy as giving it — using the "Cookie preferences" link in the footer, or by clearing this site's data in your browser. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store your IP address. Data is processed by Google as our processor; see Google's Privacy Policy and how Google Analytics safeguards data. You can also opt out site-wide with Google's opt-out browser add-on.

The site also loads a web font from Google Fonts for styling; your browser requests that font directly from Google, subject to Google's own policies. This is not used for tracking.

Supporting the site

UnicodeGames carries no ads. The only way to support it is the optional "Buy me a coffee" link, which simply takes you to our page on Buy Me a Coffee. It is a plain link — no tracking pixel, no embedded widget, and nothing loads from that service unless you click it. If you do choose to send a tip, the payment happens entirely on Buy Me a Coffee's own site under their privacy policy; we never see or store your name, email or payment details, and we receive no personal data about you.

Children

The games are family-friendly and suitable for all ages. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, we show no ads, and the only data collection (consent-based analytics) is off unless an adult chooses to enable it.
